Dawn Parade, from the original Disney cartoon.

KS1/2: Suggested in QCA Unit 9 as example of music that describes animals.

KS3 idea: Can be viewed as an example of the march genre, drawing attention to the verbal counting and regular pulse and typical 'oompah' bass line. Notice how the march tempo that suits elephants is slower than would suit humans (perhaps contrast it with a typical Sousa march).

Trailer for Dolphins and Whales, Tribes of the Ocean in 3D.

KS2/3 idea: Does any of the musical content of this soundtrack strongly suggest the deep ocean? Pupils could be asked to compose and record their own alternative soundtrack for this trailer, which includes no commentary/dialogue and is about 75 seconds long. They should first decide what particular feelings that want to evoke and how they could achieve this in music/sound. After composing their soundtracks in small groups they could then record them and play them back in place of the original soundtrack. How do they think their efforts measure up to their intentions and to the original soundtrack?
